Parsippany, NJ March 2010—Interactive Media Associates, Inc. (IMA), a digital agency specializing in the planning, development, and marketing of Web services, today announced the release of its latest Web site for the Morris Center YMCA. The newly designed site can be viewed at http://www.morriscenterymca.org.
The Morris Center YMCA has been serving the greater western Morris County area since 1874. A non-profit charity, their purpose is to benefit, enhance, and improve individual and family life for people who live and work in their service area by delivering the best possible, most complete facilities and an extensive variety of unsurpassed programs and activities.
In redesigning their site, the Morris Center YMCA hoped to appeal across all ages and rejuvenate the site to welcome newcomers and make it more user friendly for existing members. The YMCA wanted to position themselves as more than “swim and gym”. They wanted the site to illustrate who they are and their commitment to healthy living and social responsibility based on the ever evolving needs of the community. The team at IMA kept these goals clearly in mind as they developed the design for the new site, which takes advantage of a wider screen resolution and the traditional Y site palette of red, black, white, and grey. “Through design and imagery, we wanted to evoke a sense that this is an exciting place for all ages,” says Michelle Cameron, Vice President and Creative Director at IMA. “The Morris YMCA also felt strongly that if they could attract the 20-something age group, they would develop loyalty to the Y early on, and bring their families there later in life.”
Another site goal was to streamline the content on the site. The fresh, attractive new homepage clearly directs audience segments to new events and special announcements. The new Programs section offers information on aquatics and fitness, for adults, active older adults, pre-schoolers, and teens. Membership information includes fees and an XML-based tour of the facility, while the About Our Y section includes a historical slide-show of images from the Morris Center Y’s earliest days. The Camp & Childcare section includes information about the two daycare facilities the Morris Center Y runs, as well as information about after school care, adventure day programs during school vacations, and, of course, the ever-popular summer camp.
Since the YMCA is a dynamic place with multiple programs running simultaneously, it was imperative that Morris Center YMCA staff have the capability to update their own site, without having to wait for outside development resources. Because they were comfortable using the Adobe Contribute content management system, IMA was able to create a site that quickly and easily allows staff to post updates to their site and post pertinent announcement and event information on the home page.
