CASE STUDY - NYCDS
The revised New York County Dental Society Website: redesigned and easier to manage
Founded in 1868, the New York County Dental Society (NYCDS) represents one of the largest groups of practicing dentists in the country and is the largest component dental society in New York State. The society had a website that was difficult for its staff members to manage and which clearly needed a more contemporary and professional design.
As a service-focused organization driven to meet the needs of practicing dental professionals as well as students and residents, NYCDS serves as the preeminent information and education hub for dentistry in Manhattan. In re-architecting the website, iMedia needed to work with NYCD’s third-party vendor for member-only content, as well as providing an interface for the multiple continuing education courses the Society provides.
Creating a fresh, contemporary design, iMedia suggested that the new site be developed using the Kentico CMS. As a Kentico Gold Partner, iMedia was able to implement a highly maintainable, feature-rich platform, while incorporating a catalog of continuing education courses. Courses are input into a predictable template and rendered in individual pop-up screens, allowing the users to focus on their content without distraction. A prominent “register for this course” button makes the call-to-action self-evident, taking users into a third-party application requiring a member log-on before they register. Other aspects of the Members Center are also delivered by the fully-integrated third-party application.
Elements of the old site, such as a virtual tour, have been fully incorporated into the new, while new additions, such as Testimonials by members, were added to refresh the site’s content.
The Kentico calendar application was deployed, aggregating a variety of different events. Website visitors can filter events to see only those they are interested in, from Membership Meetings to Continuing Education.
Most important for NYCDS was the ability to quickly update their site, particularly with the seasonal changes to their course offerings. The Kentico CMS provided them with an interface to do precisely that in an environment that is comfortable and easy to use.
